Betty Louise Hampton Van Meter
Betty Louise Hampton Van Meter, age 95, of Paris, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Orlando, Florida. Betty was born in Georgetown, Kentucky on July 20, 1929, the daughter of the late Violet Dunn and Melvin Earl Hampton, Sr., and was a 1952 graduate of the University of Kentucky. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Aline Brogli (Jim) Whitecotten who were from Cynthiana; two brothers Melvin Earl (Nancy) Hampton, Jr. who were from Paris, and Bobby Gene (Rosellen) Hampton who had resided in Austin, Texas.
Betty and her previous husband, Maurice Van Meter of Shelbyville, Kentucky, traveled the world as he served the country as a military officer. She later settled back in Paris where she went to work as a sales clerk for J.C. Penney’s and retired when it closed in 1996. She was an enthusiastic UK football and basketball fan, enjoyed fishing, gardening, bird watching, and family gatherings.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Harry) Voss of Orlando, Florida; two sons, Daniel (Delanna) Van Meter of Paris, and Andrew (Carla) Van Meter of Frankfort, Kentucky. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The funeral service for Betty Louise Hampton Van Meter will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Paris cemetery with casket bearers being Mike Brogli, Jacob Van Meter, Elijah Van Meter, P.J. Gambel, Zach Clark, and David Hamilton.
