William Matthew Bailey

William Matthew Bailey, known to family and friends as Matt, passed away on April 16, 2026, in Lexington, Kentucky, at the age of 55.
Matt was born on November 29, 1970, in Paris, Kentucky, and he carried the values of his hometown with him throughout his life. He was a kind and friendly man whose presence brought comfort and warmth to those around him. He was deeply devoted to the people he loved, and he will be remembered for the genuine care he showed to his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Matt was the beloved son of Brenda Toadvine Holt and the late Donald Ray Bailey. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Bailey Costa and her husband Mike, his nephew, Leo Costa, his half sister, Emma Dawn Newell, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. His family was an important part of his life, and he treasured the bonds he shared with them.
Matt built a respected career as an IT Specialist for the VA Hospital, and he previously worked for IBM and Lexmark. He took great pride in his work and was known for his dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic. He loved his job and valued the friendships he formed throughout his career. His professional life reflected the same steady and thoughtful character that defined him personally.
Outside of work, Matt enjoyed many of the things that made life meaningful to him. He was an avid University of Kentucky sports fan and followed his teams with enthusiasm and loyalty. He also enjoyed listening to music and watching horse racing, especially at Keeneland and the Kentucky Derby. These interests brought him joy and gave him many memorable moments over the years.
Matt will be remembered most for his kind heart, his friendly nature, and the love he shared so freely with others. He had a quiet strength and a gentle spirit that left a lasting impression on those around him. His family and friends will forever cherish the memories they made with him and the many ways he enriched their lives.
Though his time here was far too short, Matt’s life was one of love, devotion, and sincerity. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, and he will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to share in his life.
