Santford C. “S.C.” Graves Jr.

Santford C. “S.C.” Graves Jr. passed away peacefully at his home with both of his daughters by his side, at the age of 96. He was born in Millersburg, Kentucky to the late Santford C. and Maggie Curtis Graves, and worked with his father as a general contractor prior to joining the army, serving in the Korean War. After coming home he served with the National Guard in Carlisle, Kentucky. He was a member of the American Legion of Millersburg and had served with the Honor Guard as well as working at Bluegrass Army Depot, retiring from both after thirty-three years.
In addition to his parents, the love of his life, Mary, passed away on December 20th, 19 years earlier. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Morgan Baumeister and Travis Adams, as well as all ten of his siblings, Joe (Mary) Graves, Herbert (Julia) Graves, Glenn (Juanita) Graves, Pauline (Riley) Martin, Roberta (Stan) Coleman, Myrtle (Earl) Shannon, Mary (S.T.) Minton, William Graves, Cleota and Jessie Graves. Also preceding him in death was his mother-in-law and father-in-law, and seven of Mary Bush’s siblings.
He had a life of many joys, namely fishing and hunting with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He loved playing Santa Claus at the armory, especially when his own grandchildren were on his lap. He loved his long truck rides with his beloved dog, Doc.
He is survived by his two daughters, Paulette (Rick) Hadden and Julie (Larry) Adams, his grandchildren, Erich Baumeister and Nikki (Nick) Stebbins, granddaughter-in-law, Kelley Sponcil, and great granddaughter Brynna Sponcil.
The visitation for Santford C. “S.C.” Graves will begin at 11:00 am. on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home with the funeral service to begin at 12 noon, Rev. Vernon Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Millersburg Cemetery with casket bearers being Nick Stebbins, Joe Pat Johnson, Scotty Johnson, Chuck Mattox, Tim Garrison, Terry Logan, and David Jones. Honorary bearers are Bobby Fogle, Danny Minton, Michael Masterson, Dwayne Mattox, Denny Graves, Gary Small, Lloyd Kates, Donnie Bridges, and a host of nieces.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Emily with Bluegrass Care Navigators who made his last days at home comfortable and peaceful. Thank you to his caretakers for the last five years, Joy Taylor, Sabrina Goins Ormsby, Teresa Brock, Darlene Adams, and Pauline Carroll.

    Paulette and Julie, I am so sorry that you and all of us lost “S C” I know you will miss him. He was a friend as well as a relative. He lived a good and long life. I remember staying with him Thanksgiving of 2015. Your cousin, Bobby Jones
