Homer Boyd Royse, Jr., husband of Sue Langfels Royse, of Paris, departed this life on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, having attained the age of 86 years. Homer was born in Louisville, Kentucky on November 29, 1938, the son of the late Martha Jobe and Homer Boyd Royse, Sr., was a graduate from Henry Clay High School, attended the YMCA College- in Chicago, IL. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He, along with Delza Maggard, came to Paris and helped revitalize the Paris-Bourbon County YMCA where he displayed his love and compassionate heart for the youth, by working and volunteering as a coach, swimming instructor, and Camp Director of Camp Little Acorn. Homer was the owner/operator of Homer’s Tastee-Freez, which later became Homer’s, from 1968-2007. During those years, he coached and supported the youth sports which made Homer’s the hub post-game gatherings. He loved serving the community by organizing events at the Bourbon County Fair, the county’s Fourth of July celebrations and St. Mary School field days.
Along with his wife Sue, he is survived by four children, Stephen (Tina) Royse, Karen (Greg) Robinson, Jim (Ashley) Royse, Brian (Brittney) Royse; six grandchildren, Westley (Katerina Jo) Royse, Matthew (Brittanie) Royse, Andrew (Rebecca) Robinson, Breanna (Codie) Roe, Emma Hughes, and Ella Royse. Also surviving are eight great grandchildren, Tyler Royse, Boone Royse, Bailee Royse, Ayden McFarland, Finley Robinson, Cooper Robinson, Chandler Robinson, and Lanie Roe.
There will be a private graveside service for Homer Boyd Royse, Jr. at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Interment will immediately follow with his grandchildren as casket bearers. Visitations will be on Sunday afternoon, January 26, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Monday evening, January 27, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home.
