PARIS, KY – The Paris High School swim team is gearing up for tomorrow’s KHSAA Region 8 Championship, hosted by Lexington Catholic High School and held at Centre College’s state-of-the-art Champions Hall. The meet will be held inside the impressive 135,000‑square‑foot facility, which opened just last year and features a 10‑lane, 50‑meter competition pool with a moveable bulkhead, a dedicated diving well with 1‑meter and 3‑meter boards, and spectator seating for up to 700 fans.

Paris will send a tight but determined squad of four swimmers: juniors Audrey Gonzalez and Miranda True, eighth grader Roman Adkins, and seventh grader Melanie Marrufo‑Perez. The team is led by coaches Corrie Frye and Hugo Gonzalez, who have guided the group through months of training and steady improvement.

“Our team is small, but mighty,” Coach Frye shared through email. “We’re excited to see what we can accomplish at regionals. Go Hounds!”

Gonzalez, a regional finalist last season, returns with high expectations as she competes in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke. Adkins will take on the 50 Freestyle and 100 Freestyle, while Marrufo‑Perez is set for the 50 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke. True rounds out the lineup, competing in both the 50 and 100 Freestyle events.

For several of the younger swimmers, this meet will be their first experience on a championship stage, an opportunity to build confidence, chase personal‑best times, and proudly represent Paris High. They’ll be doing so against a field dominated by much larger schools, with only one other 1A program competing. The challenge is real, but so is the opportunity… competing shoulder‑to‑shoulder with some of the biggest programs in central Kentucky

Region 8 includes Bourbon County (3A), Bryan Station (6A), Frederick Douglass (6A), George Rogers Clark (6A), Great Crossing (6A), Harrison County (4A), Henry Clay (6A), Lafayette (6A), Lexington Catholic (3A), Lexington Christian Academy (2A), Mason County (4A), Montgomery County (5A), Paul Laurence Dunbar (6A), Powell County (3A), Sayre (1A), Scott County (5A), and Tates Creek (6A).

The Hounds hope to build on a season of steady progress and strong team chemistry as they dive into one of the biggest meets of the year.

Best of luck to the swimmers and coaches at the Region 8 Championship as they dive in and showcase that Paris Pride.
