Betty Hewitt Lair Wyatt, aged 86, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, in Lexington, Kentucky. She was a beacon of love and warmth in the lives of those she touched, embodying the virtues that she held dear throughout her life. Born on December 11, 1939, in Paris, Kentucky, Betty’s life was a testament to her faith-filled spirit, boundless kindness, and a ceaseless sense of adventure.
She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, John Boardman Wyatt, her cherished children, son, Charlie (Robin) Wyatt, and daughter, Cathy Lynn Wyatt Klotzback. Her joy was multiplied with the birth of her grandson, Braden Wyatt, and her memory will be carried on by a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Mary May Lair, and her sister, Mary Gene Lair McCord.
Betty’s career journey saw her build enduring relationships as a long-time Rite-Aid Pharmacy employee, and she also contributed to the community through her work at H&R Block. Faith was the cornerstone of her existence, and as a steadfast member of Ruddles Mills Christian Church since 1957, she served and worshipped with a heart full of grace. She extended her love for heritage and history in her role as a docent with the Hopewell Museum, sharing stories and knowledge with visitors and history enthusiasts.
Travel ran through Betty’s veins as she traversed the expanse of the United States and beyond, exploring the terrains of England, the tulip fields of Holland, the islands of Hawaii, and many more captivating destinations. Her garden was a reflection of her inner beauty, thriving with the flowers she nurtured with so much care. Museums were like second homes to Betty, where she would immerse herself in the presence of art and history, ever eager to learn and appreciate.
Betty will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, an adventurous soul that knew no bounds, and a faith-filled heart that poured out love, guided by the tenets of her Christian beliefs. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she has impacted, the wisdom imparted, and the love shared. Betty’s legacy is one of love and service, and the impact of her life will continue to resonate with all who knew her. She has left the world richer for her presence and will be profoundly missed.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 PM Friday February 6, 2026, at the Ruddles Mills Christian Church, 3804 Millersburg-Ruddles Mills Rd., Paris, KY by Bro. John McGuire. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM Friday February 6, 2026, until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
