Velma Darlene Barbee Ritchie

Velma Darlene Barbee Ritchie, 76, widow of the late Billy Ray Jones and Garry Wayne Ritchie, died Wednesday January 27, 2021 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, KY.

She was born in Carlisle, KY to the late Oney and Lorene Hudson Barbee.  She was a homemaker, member of the River of Life Ministries, she loved going to church and spending time with her family.  She was a true matriarch of the family and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by six children, Donald (Vickie) Jones, Glenda (Leslie) Cook, Sherry (Shannon) Back, Tammy (John) Black, Cindy (Greg) Page and Jessica Ritchie; fifteen grandchildren, Kindra O’Neal (Steve Toungate), Garry Jones, Daryl (Treva) Cook, Darrin (Brittany) O’Neal, Derrick (Savannah) Cook, Koldy Jones (Joy Weaver), Joseph Black, Lorena (Nathan) Kirby, Travis O’Neal (Sydney Eli), Karly Black (Ethan French), Mitchell Page, Nicholas Page, Madison Page, Heather Back, Joshua Back; seventeen great grandchildren, Shawn Bowles (Michaela Roe), Jacob Robinson, Haley O’Neal, Sydney Toungate, Cole O’Neal, Sarah O’Neal, Malachi O’Neal, Olivia Jones, Ella Kate Cook, Ann Marie Cook, Rankin Cook, Jamesyn Cook, Leon Estep, Adaline Black, Eli Kirby, Landon Johnson and Caleb Johnson; one brother, Tony Barbee; five sisters, Carolyn Overly, Louise (Ronnie) Powell, Sue (Mark) Terrill, Frances (Paul) Fryman and Rose (Joe) Lucas and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Barbee and Noble Barbee.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 1, 2021 at the River of Life Ministries, 616 Clintonville Rd., Paris, KY by Pastor Krista Hampton and Bro. Dennis Peace.  Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memory Gardens, Paris, KY.

Visitation was from 5-8 PM, Sunday, January 31, 2021 at the church.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters and great grandchildren.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the River of Life Ministries Building Fund, 616 Clintonville Rd., Paris, KY 40361.
