Helen Jean Shifflett Graham

Helen Jean Shifflett Graham, daughter of Anna Mae and Lester Shifflett formerly of Bourbon County, was born on May 29, 1934, in Lincoln County. She died on December 7, at the Willows at Fritz Farm in Lexington, KY. Helen was the wife of John Taylor Graham of Lexington, who died this past January, after 67 years of marriage. She was the Mother of a son John (Buddy) Taylor Graham (deceased) and a daughter Leslie Graham West (Jimmy) and grandmother of Katelen Taylor West. Helen has four brothers: Dean (Doris) Shifflett, deceased, James (Patricia) Shifflett, Leonard (Bonnes) Shifflett, and Carl Gene (Carol) Shifflett. She was a member of the First Nazarene Church.

Helen lived most of her life in Lexington, graduated from Good Samaritan Dental Auxiliary School for Dental Assistants, and worked as a dental assistant for William C. Reynolds, DMD, medical secretary, and often helped her husband in his motel management business while traveling extensively with his job. Helen formed lasting friendships with friends from early school years at Ruddles Mill school; Anne, Lilly Carol, and Katie through high school until the present. Also, close friends of the family are Jane, Rose, Donna, and others too many to mention.

Both Helen and John enjoyed cooking and eating. They always looked forward to their Christmas Breakfast (country ham and all the trimmings) and would invite family, relatives, and friends. Even in the later years of her sickness she enjoyed entertaining at home riding on her scooter in the house directing everyone. She will surely be missed.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at the Bluegrass Memorial Gardens Chapel, Harrodsburg Road (US 68), at 11:00 a.m., by Rev. Jim Groves.
