Charles Blanding “Charlie B.” Gentry, Jr.
Charles Blanding “Charlie B.” Gentry, Jr., 79, husband of Shirley Prebil Gough Gentry passed away Mar. 31, 2023. He was born Sep 29, 1943, in Lexington, KY, son of the late Charles and Dixie Walker Gentry.
He was a farmer in Athens, KY and later in life in Carlisle, KY. His roots are firmly in the Bluegrass with his ancestors having lived in Fort Boonesborough. He enjoyed ornamental blacksmithing and innovate welding projects. He had a knack for billiards, and he regularly participated in team competitions. He was a great fan of UK sports especially basketball. He enjoyed hosting cookouts with friends. He attended North Middletown Christian Church. He was a devoted husband and a true friend. He was a happy man with a lighthearted laugh.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Gentry; daughters Charlotte Gentry and Jodi Gentry Hall and son Nicholas (Emily) Gentry; Grandchildren Brittany Ketter Gollihue; Danny, Joseph, and Aubrey Hall; Katelyn and Zachary Gentry. Great-grandchildren Bentley and Khloe Hall; Bryan James and BayLeigh Jane Hall.
He is preceded in death by his sister Jane Gentry Vance.
Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. Monday April 24, 2023 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home 463 East Main St. Lexington, KY. Visitation was one hour before the service. Rev. Dr. Stephanie Moon officiated the service.
Burial followed the service at The Lexington Cemetery 833 West Main St. Pallbearers were Nicholas Gentry, Zachary Gentry, Dr. Chris Swayze, Leslie Cook, Mike Cassity, John Cook, Dick Garrett, and Jerry Wilder.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to the Ashland Avenue Baptist Church, 483 W. Reynolds Rd., Lexington KY 40503, North Middletown Christian Church 1976 Thatchers Mill Rd. Paris, KY 40361 or to your favorite charity. A celebration of life will be announced by the family at a later date.
