ichelle Lawrence Shaw, a beacon of courage and love, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, in Lexington, KY, at the age of 70. Born on April 21, 1954, in Chicago, IL, Diane’s life was a testament to her strength, wisdom, and loving nature.
Diane proudly served her country as a Sergeant in the United States Army for 15 years, a period during which she demonstrated unwavering bravery and dedication. Following her military career, she continued to serve her community through her work at Lextran in Lexington, KY, where she retired after many years of committed service.
A sports enthusiast, Diane’s passion for Ohio State Football and Duke Basketball was infectious. Her spirited support for her teams was a joy to witness and became a cherished ritual among her friends and family.
She is survived by her loving mother, Nora Harris; her devoted son, Bruce Shaw (Katrina Johnson); her caring sisters, Donna Lawrence, Leases McCall, Jacqueline Michaels and Carol Wynette Lawrence; her brother, Tommy Lawrence; her special cousin, who cared for her until her passing, Donna Brack; her dear friend, Angie Hutchison; and adoring two nieces, Andrea Burrell and Tyanna Burrell; one nephew, Tyler Burrell; two step brothers, David Bryant and Timothy Bryant and cousins. Diane was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Lawrence, and her beloved son, Gary “Scootie” Lawrence.
Diane’s legacy of courage, wisdom, and love will continue to inspire all who knew her. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of her family and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday February 20, 2025, at the Lusk-McFarland Funeral Home Chapel, 1120 Main St., Paris, KY by Rev. Dr. Morgan Gilkey. Burial with full military rites was conducted at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
Visitation was from 5-8 PM Wednesday February 19, 2025, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Bruce Shaw, Dana Brack, Jerry Smith, Jah Smith, Hamzah Malik, Jhavel Williams and Jonathon Marks.
