Laura Elizabeth King DeLaney

Laura Elizabeth King DeLaney, 67, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2026, at her residence.
She was born May 1, 1959, in Paris, Kentucky, the daughter of Dr. Malcolm H. King of Ashland and the late Audrey “Sudie” Greene King. Laura attended Centre College and was a graduate of the California Culinary Academy. She carried her education and talents into a life of service, creativity, and care, and she became widely known as the owner and operator of Catering by Laura. Through her work, she shared her love of food and hospitality with many, and she did so with the grace, warmth, and professionalism that came naturally to her.
Laura was a master gardener, and she found joy in nurturing beauty both in the kitchen and in the garden. She had a special gift for making others feel welcome, and her kind, friendly, and thoughtful nature touched everyone who knew her. Laura was especially devoted to her grandchildren, who knew her as Nana and loved her dearly. She cherished every moment with them and gave them her whole heart.
Family was the center of Laura’s life, and she gave herself faithfully to those she loved. She was the caregiver to her parents for more than 17 years, a role she embraced with patience, devotion, and deep love. Her strength, compassion, and steadfast presence were a blessing to her family throughout those years. She leaves behind a legacy of selflessness and dedication that will long be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In addition to her father, Dr. Malcolm H. King, she is survived by her husband, David L. DeLaney; two sons, Jacob H. DeLaney of Ashland and Ian DeLaney and his wife, Abigail, of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; two brothers, Dr. Malcolm A. King and his wife, Karen, and Howard King, both of Ashland; one sister, Mindy Click and her husband, Dan, of Grayson, Kentucky; and three grandchildren, Brystol Hart DeLaney, Aiden Matthew DeLaney, and Ashton Lee DeLaney.
Laura’s life was one of love, service, and quiet strength. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her generous heart, and the many ways she cared for others. Though her passing leaves a deep emptiness, her legacy remains in the lives she touched, the meals she prepared, the gardens she tended, and the family she loved so completely.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Monday, May 18, 2026, at STEEN FUNERAL HOME, 13th STREET CHAPEL, by Rev. Keith L. Katterheinrich. Burial followed at Rose Hill Burial Park. The family received friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Monday at the funeral home.
